RajYoga in Vedic Astrology

Yoga in Astrology refers to a certain relative combination of planets.  Astrologers prefer to understand the concealed themes behind the various ‘yogas’. The Raj Yogas are considered to bestow prosperity, status and prominence. Rajyog results due to an association formed amongst Lord of quadrants, upon computation from the lagna and the Lord of the trikonas. These are considered as apex points where the blessings from Vishnu and Lakshmi get culminated.

Rajayoga is one the ‘shubha’ or auspicious yoga that bestows great success and rise in business or career, particularly during the dashas of planets that cause raja yoga. However, if there is presence of Arista yogas along with raj yoga, the results may get adversely affected.

All the combinations of planets that would confer wealth, good fortune, comforts, authority in ruling power either through inheritance or self-effort  fall in the domain of Raj Yoga.

There are many kinds of Rajayoga, but generally the formation results due to the involvement of   9^th, 10^th, 2^nd and 11^th and the lagna or ascendant, their respective house lords, exaltation signs and exaltation lords .The combination of his house lords giving rising to a Raj yoga results in enhancing the affairs of the of the house they hold, the drishti (aspect) and rule.

Discussed below are Rajayogas for 4 lagnas based on the above rule that was presented in ancient astrological texts.

When Taurus is ascending in a horoscope and the owners of 9^th and 10^th bhava (shani) is in combination with the lord of 5 bhava in one of the kendras or trikonas, rajyoga is formed in kundali.

When Gemini is ascending in a kundali and the Lords of 1^st and 4^th house shows alignments with the lord of the 10^th house (brihaspati) or with the Lord of the 5^th house (shukr) forms Raj Yoga in a horoscope.

When  cancer is ascending in a horoscope and the Lord of the  1^st house (Moon) along with the owners of  5^th  and 10^th house (Mangal) aligns forming a combination in a Kendra (of cancer) 1^st,4^th,  7^th, 1^st  house or a trikona (5^th  and 9^th house), a Rajayoga is formed.

When Leo is in ascending position in a horoscope, and the Lord of the 5^th house (brihaspathi) , along with Lord of 4^th and 9^th house exhibit an alignment with a Kendra or trikona, Raja Yoga is created in the the kundali.
